Color in a cottage farmhouse? Is it fitting? Well, there's no definitive answer here. Your cottage can reflect your personal style. Whether you prefer earthy tones or vibrant hues, it's your sanctuary, and your happiness is what truly matters. Now, setting aside the cliché talk, let's explore the color scheme and vibe I've chosen for my cottage farmhouse. I owe much credit to my incredibly talented mother-in-law who collaborated with me on selecting the colors and accessories for our home. Sharing similar tastes, we gravitate towards bright, airy, and soft tones that infuse warmth and character throughout our space.
The Foundation
If you've been following my journey or caught glimpses of my home, you'll notice a prevailing theme: white. From flooring to brick, siding to cabinets, our dwelling is enveloped in pristine white. People often ask, "Aren't you tired of it?" My response? Absolutely not! A neutral backdrop offers the perfect canvas to infuse splashes of color through décor. Floral patterns grace our walls, throw pillows, and antique plates, seamlessly blending with the simplicity of the white backdrop.
The Palette
Predominantly, my color palette revolves around pink, blue, and green. These hues are interwoven into various elements of our home, adding depth and personality. I've developed a fondness for the artistic flair of Lilyoake, whose floral designs resonate with the cottage aesthetic I adore. Whether it's wallpaper, bedding, or throw pillows, Lilyoake's creations enrich our spaces. Some may question the multitude of patterns and colors, but for me, it's a seamless fusion. As long as the colors complement each other, a tasteful blend is achieved. Consistency in color tones maintains coherence amidst the variety of patterns and textures.
Wooden Accents
To enhance the cottage ambiance, I incorporate wood tones into our décor. Whether it's wicker baskets, accordion hooks, or vintage finds, these elements add warmth and texture to our space. Some enthusiasts opt for distressed or bleached wood, evoking a rustic charm that resonates with the cottage aesthetic.
Choosing the Right Colors
In essence, injecting color into your cottage farmhouse is more than okay—it's delightful! With a timeless white backdrop, you have the freedom to experiment with décor and evolve your color palette over time. Ultimately, your home should reflect your joy and passion. So, embrace what makes you happy and infuse your space with love.
Until we meet again!
