New Build Home: Embracing the Cottage Farmhouse Dream

I’ve been a bit quiet lately, but for a good reason—we're in the midst of building our dream home! Nestled on family property, we're crafting the perfect setting for our charming farmhouse. After some trial and error with house plans and weeks of searching, I stumbled upon Plan 77640FB, a delightful cottage farmhouse design that perfectly fits our vision. With some tweaks and adjustments, it's evolving into our cozy haven.

Our Modifications:

Initially planned with a basement, we opted for a cost-effective slab foundation. While this decision meant sacrificing basement space, we're compensating with a separate garage for storage needs. However, we realized the original layout without the basement lacked designated space for utilities and laundry. Considering options, we chose to extend the house, creating room for a dedicated utility and laundry area.

Another notable change is the addition of a charming chimney. Originally, my husband expressed a desire for both storage space and a real wood-burning fireplace. While a masonry chimney proved costly, he found a suitable alternative—a wood-burning fireplace insert resembling a traditional fireplace. Initially, a simple pipe protruding from the roof was planned, but aesthetically, it fell short of our expectations. Opting for curb appeal, we collaborated with our builder to construct a chimney that aligns with the cottage farmhouse aesthetic. This decision enhances the overall charm of our home, fulfilling our vision.

The Desired Style:

For those who haven't guessed, our aesthetic vision is firmly rooted in the cottage farmhouse vibe. We're embracing floral patterns, tasteful wallpaper, and antique accents throughout. Light and airy LVP flooring complements the chosen paint colors, harmonizing effortlessly with our floral fabric selections.
